On my first trip to Paris, I made it a point to see all the classic sights and eat all the classic foods I could. I'd never been to France before, but in grad school, I was a big fan of Roland Barthes and knew I had to dive into a succulent steak frites to truly understand the local culture. And drink wine by the Eiffel Tower, and go to Notre Dame, and eat lots and lots of cheese!
Thankfully, I was visiting my fantastic old friends Aurore and Chloe, who showed me around town and took me to all the secretly best restaurants like Chez Gladines for incredible Basque food, Le Bambu for Vietnamese pho, and La Fontaine for decadent raclette and lots of beer and wine. While I can't say I experienced everything the city has to offer in just a few days, I certainly left a little heavier and a little happier after this trip.
