Little Slovenia is where the Alps meet the Adriatic to create some stunning scenery packed into a pretty small area that's easy to explore. And there's abundant good food all across the country, so it’s no wonder we've visited many times over the last few years.
My first visit to Slovenia was in 2017, when we hopped across the border from Trieste, Italy, after attending the Venice Biennale. We stayed in the seaside town of Koper with our friend, Katja, whom we'd met many years earlier in Kabul. Katja was an exceptional host and took us on a hiking trek to Triglav, the country's highest peak, and to Lake Bled, where we sampled kremšnita at Tito's summer residence.
More recently, we've been taking short weekend getaways to Slovenia, visiting places like Gozd Martuljek, Krško, and Jelenov Greben, to get some fresh air, let the dog off the leash, and enjoy some fine dining. I'm sure I'll keep adding pics to this post as we re-visit Slovenia, so stay tuned for updates :)
