#14 CZECH REPUBLIC

I first visited the Czech Republic way back in 2003, shortly after graduating from college. It was my first time in Central Europe, and I was amazed by Prague's Gothic architecture and cheap beer. I was also on a shoestring budget and stayed in an old indoor basketball court converted to a youth hostel. It was the kind of place where people would sit around in the evening and tell stories about their fantastic travel adventures, and inevitably someone would pull out a guitar to riff some Manu Chao.

I didn't have a camera back then, so I don't have any photos, but I've been returning to the Czech Republic periodically to visit Zoran's family in Znojmo, close to the border with Austria. Znojmo is a quiet place, but it has beautiful nature, a charming cobblestoned old town, and some cute bakeries with delicious pavlovas!
