In the fall of 2019, I returned to West Africa for work and managed to sneak in a long weekend in Accra to visit my friend, Jessica. Like most countries in the region, the weather was hot and humid, and the vibe was noticeably relaxed. We walked around the oldest part of the city, Jamestown, where people still live in tightly-knit household units with shared courtyards, like the old hutongs in Beijing. We also hit up Labadi beach for some sun, sea, and grilled chicken, though it's the kind of place where tourists are cordoned off from locals hawking souvenirs, horse rides, and stuff. And, how could I forget the rain-flooded mini-golf just around the corner from Jessica's house, where we indulged in ice-cold G&Ts after some put-put!
