There are ten islands in Cabo Verde, and from what I can tell from my brief visit, they are all pretty different from each other. I think I was lucky to go straight to Ilha de Maio, which was just a short 15-minute flight from the capital city. Here there were no high-rise hotels, resorts, or legions of tourists. Instead, we were rewarded with miles and miles of pristine beaches, warm waters, and lots of delicious grilled fish!
For the week that I spent here on Ilha de Maio, I woke up every day at sunrise and went for a 10k run on the beach of the marine park that runs the island's southern coast. Then I'd come home for a coffee and breakfast, chill by the pool and take in a bit of sun, and then later go out to the plaza a few blocks away for an excellent grilled bonito at the local fish shack. All in all, it's a pretty chill place and a great introduction to Lusophone Africa!
