#109 PARAGUAY

Paraguay isn't the kind of country you hear a lot about. It isn't a tourism hotspot and is kind of out of the way, not to mention it has a bit of a funny reputation among its neighbors. Even the guidebooks for Paraguay tout its off-the-grid vibe as its primary appeal alongside warnings that its the most conservative country in the region.

Despite this, we had a great time during our one week in Paraguay, which we split between the capital of Asunción and Ciudad del Este, our gateway to Iguazu Falls (see my post on Brazil for more on that though!). The one constant, however, was the inescapable heat that was made even more insufferable by the high humidity. So, in some sense, I guess it was a bit of a blessing that there wasn't much going on in Asunción and we could instead spend our days lazily relaxing and keeping cool. And, thankfully, all our hotels had rooftop pools, which made our evening bedtime baby routine ever more pleasant after a day of heavy sweating.

Overall, the vibe was pretty chill and we had a pleasant enough time in this underrated country. Sure, it might not be as enticing as Argentina or Brazil next-door, but if we ever want to go totally off grid again we'll probably head to Paraguay for a while ;)
