#110 BRAZIL

2024 was the year I finally made it to Brazil! I'd wanted to visit for ages but my travel plans just never worked out. Then, realizing I'd accumulated a ton of frequent flyer miles and had a baby that could fly for free was all the motivation I needed to book a totally unplanned trip to São Paolo and Rio de Janeiro!

For years I'd heard stories about the dangers of travel in Brazil's urban areas, but once I had my feet on the ground I felt very comfortable and safe. Or at least as much as you'd feel in any big city in the Western world.

I was still learning the ropes about how to travel with a one-year-old, so I wanted to take things slow and avoid any unnecessary public meltdowns or stressful situations. That meant planning lots of time around the pool and beach, keeping to scheduled nap and meal times, and a fair amount of ice cream to cope with the humid heat. Our two-week trip was a real joy and I can definitely see returning to explore further, even if I might wait till my daughter is a bit older and has mastered the art of long-haul flying. Till then, we'll always have fond memories of the playful coati and mischiveous monkeys we met along the way!
