Back in 2013, I found myself with a precious month off between jobs, so I decided to take a bit of a whirlwind tour through Europe to see some countries that I'd never had the time, convenience, or budget to visit: Germany, Italy, San Marino, Vatican City, Greece, and Albania.
In Germany, we were going to meet up with some friends we'd made in China years earlier, but unfortunately, I came down sick with Giardia on the flight over from Kabul, which spoiled a lot of the eating and enjoyment. And, while I couldn't ever stray too far from a bathroom, I did eventually get a hold of some antibiotics and get my fill of delicious Schwarzwälder Schinken!
In the years that followed, Frankfurt and Munich became my regular transit points between the US and Turkey, and I relished my layovers with an impromptu schnitzel and Riesling! I'm actually passing through Frankfurt again in a few days, so maybe I'll be updating this post soon with more pics of meats and drinks!
